How Businesses Can Improve Their Visibility in AI Answers

Improving AI visibility is less about a single technical trick and more about a handful of foundational fixes most businesses simply haven't gotten around to. None of the steps below require specialized AI expertise - they're closer to good housekeeping than a new discipline.
Fix inconsistent business information first
Before anything else, confirm that the business name, address, phone number, and service description are identical across the website, any directory listings, and social profiles. AI systems, like traditional search engines, treat inconsistency as a signal of uncertainty about which version is correct, which makes a business less likely to be confidently cited. This is usually the highest-value, lowest-effort fix available, and something a business can audit itself in an afternoon.
Add accurate structured data
Organization, Service, and FAQPage structured data (schema.org markup, typically added as JSON-LD in a page's HTML) gives AI systems an explicit, unambiguous description of a business and its services to draw from, rather than requiring them to infer that information from marketing copy. This only helps if the data is accurate and genuinely matches what's visible on the page - structured data that overstates or misrepresents the business is a data-quality problem, not a visibility improvement, and can actively damage trust once discovered.
Write direct answers to real customer questions
A short, direct, self-contained answer to a specific question a real customer would ask - "Does this service work for a small team?", "How long does setup typically take?" - is more likely to be lifted into an AI-generated answer than the same information buried inside a longer marketing paragraph. This is also simply better for human visitors: the goal is genuinely useful content that happens to also work well for AI systems, not content written only for a crawler.
